Malacanang Palace: The President’s Home
Recognised as the official residence of the Philippine President, Malacanang Palace is beautifully positioned on the bank of the Pasig River in Manila. This spectacular 18th century palace was created by Don Luis Rocha who was a Spanish nobleman.
During the early stages, the magnificent Malacanang Palace became the summer home to the 18 Spanish Governors and thereafter it provided shelter to 14 American civil Governors. Following independence in 1937, this mansion became the official residence of the Philippine President.
The palace became immensely popular for its residents such as President Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos. They occupied the palace for the longest time from 1965 to 1986.
Those who visit this stunning complex will find the striking Malacanang Place, Mabini Hall, the Bonifacio Hall, Kalayaan Hall, along with the New Executive building. The Malacanang Park located right across the Pasig River comes with a spectacular golf course plus the presidential rest house.
This presidential palace includes balconies, sliding windows, arches and so many other interesting features. However most of its original architectural features have been lost along the way due to the numerous renovation and revamping projects that took place during its past 150 years.
A place that should not be missed at the Malacanang Palace is The Presidential Study. Similar to the Oval Office of the United States, The Presidential Study is the official office of the Philippine President. The Presidential Study can be found on the second floor of the palace.
Some of the most unique features at the Palace are the three chandeliers which are put in place in the reception hall. Visitors will also get the opportunity to view a series of portraits of former Presidents. The palace museum and music room too should not be left unexplored.
This world famous Palace as well as Presidential Office and Home is best explored if travellers choose to stay at a nearby Manila hotel. The Heritage Hotel Manila is an ideal accommodation choice for both business and leisure travellers alike.
